D Giles Limited is a fast-growing publishing and communications group. Based in central London, the company specialises in the supply of integrated publishing, graphic design and website creation services to international museums, galleries, reference libraries and historic sites.
Imprints and Activities
Publishing under the imprint of GILES, the company focuses on co-publishing for museums, galleries, historic sites, and a range of specialist institutions, such as major research and reference libraries. The core list comprises exhibition catalogues, permanent collection titles, souvenir and visitor guides with an emphasis on art and decorative art, architecture, photography and history. Clients include the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery, Blaffer Gallery, Brooklyn Museum, The Columbus Museum, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Detroit Institute of Arts, The Frick Collection, The Library of Congress, Museum of Biblical Art, New York, Foundation for the National Archives, Washington, D.C., National Gallery of Art, Washington, New-York Historical Society, Toledo Museum of Art, Smithsonian Institution and the Walters Art Museum.
GILES provides specialist editorial, translation, design, colour origination and pre-press services; printing and press management; international sales, marketing and distribution. Throughout, the emphasis is on the quality and accessibility of the finished product.
Distribution and Marketing
GILES has fully developed distribution arrangements both in the USA and UK, Europe and Rest of World. Alongside more traditional arrangements, GILES has developed a robust direct sales operation targeting sales to specialist niche markets, including academic ones.
Publishing Team
Dan Giles, Managing Director
Dan has over 12 years experience in art and museum publishing, and is a specialist in commissioning, producing and marketing illustrated colour visitor guides, exhibition catalogues and collection titles to international museums and galleries.
He has worked in the US museum and gallery market since 1994, most recently for Third Millennium Publishing. Clients for whom he has published include the Amon Carter Museum, Fort Worth; the Detroit Institute of Arts; the National Gallery of Art, Washington; the Smithsonian Institution; the Brooklyn Museum; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; The Frick Collection, New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Foundation for the National Archives, Washington, D.C.; The Library of Congress; the Corcoran Gallery of Art; the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, The Phillips Collection and The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore.
Since 2003 he has been Managing Director of GILES, a company he established, with specific responsibility for developing the company’s museum and gallery publishing and electronic publishing programme.
Sarah McLaughlin, Production Director
Sarah has 12 years experience of 4-colour book production, both in trade fiction and non-fiction. She previously has worked for HarperCollins, as a Senior Production Controller, where she was responsible for managing the production over 30 titles a year. She worked as Production Manager at Scala Publishers for four years, with responsibility for the production of the company’s entire front- and backlist of titles on international museums and galleries. Most recently Sarah has worked as Production Manager for Phaidon Press, where she was responsible for the production of the entire art list and, more recently, its prestigious photography titles.
Liz Japes, Sales and Marketing Administrator
Before joining company in January 2007, Liz worked for 10 years for one of the UK’s leading retail companies, Debenhams Plc, as a merchandiser, where she was responsible for developing new ranges of homeware products. This involved identifying new buying trends, creating budgets and sourcing suppliers in both the UK and abroad. Liz is responsible for all the non-trade sales, marketing and PR work on our titles.
