Tuesday 6 September 2011 The Frick Collection celebrates new book on Fragonard
In celebration of the September release of Fragonard's Progress of Love at The Frick Collection, the Frick will host a free public lecture and book-signing.
Jean-Honore' Fragonard's Progress of Love, commissioned in 1771 for Madame du Barry's pavilion at Louveciennes, and now housed at The Frick Collection, is considered by many to be the artist's masterpiece and one of the great works of eighteenth-century French art. Colin B. Bailey, Associate Director and Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator, The Frick Collection, has written a new monograph, Fragonard's Progress of Love at The Frick Collection just published by D Giles Limited in association with The Frick.
Dr. Bailey will give a lecture and book signing, 'Fragonard's Progress of Love: A Site-Specific Installation?' on Wednesday, September 14th in which he will discuss the circumstances surrounding the commission, installation and eventual rejection of Madame du Barry's pavilion at Louveciennes.
