Thursday 27 January 2011 The Museum of Biblical Art, New York, reopens on February 11, for the premier of Passion in Venice.
Presenting a sacred theme central to the history of Christian Art: Christ as Man of Sorrows, with works from national and international lenders, Passion in Venice examines the rich visual tradition of the sorrowful Christ in Venice across different media, including illuminated manuscripts, paintings, prints, sculpture, and liturgical objects. The exhibition at MOBIA also addresses the issue of how this iconography reflected and shaped Venetian piety in the Renaissance and immediately thereafter.
